City and Guilds Forklift Truck Operations qualifications meet the knowledge and skills requirements for prospective fork lift truck drivers and aspiring logistics operatives including development to supervisory level or into a leadership role.

 

Course Details: For those who would like to work in the logistics, warehousing or distribution industry as responsible for fork lift truck operations, including: the loading and unloading of goods in a warehousing and storage environment, the transfer and positioning of loads for driving and manoeuvring in compliance with Health & Safety requirements.

 

 

Candidates will understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads and have an understanding of responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Order & other current relevant legislation (PUWER, LOLER). Understanding controls and instruments, use of appropriate warning devices, understanding capacities and capabilities of the machine, selection of correct speed when transporting loads, over smooth and sloping ground, avoiding instability using safe operation at all times.

 

Areas of assessment include: Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations. Health and Safety at Work Order. Other current relevant regulations. Pre - shift inspections. Controls and instruments. Components, Re - fuelling systems. Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems. Emergency controls. Manoeuvring over uneven ground. Operator’s safety code. Handling loaded / unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads. Loading and Unloading flatbed lorries and at various heights.

Please note: Trainees must be able to read and interpret information. They must also be physically fit and able to carry out the tasks required of the assessment schedule.
